…things look better when you highlight one particular subject rather than a whole scene.

After all, most people go about their day observing their surroundings in much the same manner as everyone else.

Photography offers an opportunity to choose something (a berry, a rock, or some other innocuous object) and see it as something else entirely, as something incredible.

Once you have chosen a subject, there are two easy ways to bring attention to it:

1. Change the focus. Rather than see everything as you naturally do, keep the primary subject in focus and everything else out of focus.(Photo taken on the trail to Glacier Lake, MT)
2. Change your perspective. Instead of looking at things from the normal height, shake things up a bit. Crouch down and hold the camera an inch from the ground, or two inches from a boulder, or perhaps next to a tiny creek waterfall.(Photo taken on the trail to Holland Lake Falls, MT)
